The U.S. Navy contracted for the manufacture of 3,000 Model 1808 pistols and North delivered the entire contract in two years. These pistols saw significant use during the War of 1812 as they were the only pistols manufactured for the infant United States Army. The rear of the lock is marked "S. NORTH/BERLIN/CON." with an eagle stamped above "U. STATES" in front of the hammer. The flash pan, trigger guard, buttcap, ramrod pipe and side plate are brass. There is a 5 inch belt hook mounted on the left flat. Mounted on a smooth stock.

Condition: Fair as reconverted to flintlock. The pistol has a mottled gray patina with some very scattered light pitting. The markings on the lockplate are re-engraved. The refinished/repaired stock is also fair with a couple hairline cracks and some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
