U. S. Naval officers sword, circa 1880-1910, in very good condition with original scabbard, back of throat is inscribed in large block letters "ABC", belonging to A. B. Canaga, father of Bruce Canaga, 1905 NavalAcademy graduate whose sword is sold at Lot #15 of this auction. These two swords were collected by David Tate from family members in Texas and no documentation is available other than consigner's notes attesting totheir being owned by father and son named Canaga, who both served in the Navy. This sword shows a near mint nickel plated blade with no makers mark; the mounts are engraved with oak leaves, and the hangers show raisedrelief engraved brass fittings simulating intertwined naval ropes. The drag shows a dolphin, the grip is sharkskin and of standard naval pattern. The leather scabbard shows a few minor nicks, condition is goodto very good overall. Est.: $350-$700
