U.S. Model 1861 Springfield .58 caliber rifled musket dated 1863, in good overall condition. Breech marked in hand stamps, “I. D. Hadsall Bat. M. 2. P. V. V. Art Y 1863”. We would speculate that this stands forBattery 2, Pennsylvania Veteran Volunteers Artillery’ and date of enlistment. The rifle shows good metal surfaces with arsenal bright going to patina, some scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion with slightlyheavier pitting on the muzzle but generally good metal with fully visible V and P with eagle on left rear of breech and good unpolished edges. The lock shows traces of mottled case hardening with very goodmarkings. The stock is fair to good with a crack developing in the area of the left side of the wrist, but not through. Some losses around the ramrod channel, wear around the rear band, some slivers of wood missingaround front edge of ramrod channel. No visible inspections, some cracks and small losses around the lock, general Civil War use and carry. Correct “U” marked 61 bands and small parts. Action good, bored out to
