U.S. Model 1860 Staff & Field Officer's Sword with Inscribed Sheath
Straight blade, measuring 30" in length, with an etched decorative panel on each side and "WARD & STILSON./ NEW LONDON. OHIO." on the left ricasso. Gilt finished brass hilt, with American eagles on the guard and pommel, floral lightning design on the knuckleguard and a wire wrapped leather grip. Nickel finished sheath with gilt fittings, inscribed between the hanging bands "Presented to/ Maj. D.C. Crawford/ by his friends". Neither Crawford nor his friends have been identified at this time.

Condition: Very good, showing some light spotting and areas of mixed gray patina on the blade, strong original gold in the protected areas of the hilt, a fine dark patina on the higher points, light scuffs on the grip, 70% original gold on the sheath fittings, and scattered spotting and scratches on the sheath.
