The hilt shows a serious bend in theguard but is otherwise good with sharkskin grip showing some minor wear and aging with slight losses and good tight brass wire wrap. The scabbard shows most of its original blue/brown finish with some minor scratches and normal aging. The blade shows a standard etched type U.S. with American Eagle and is in good condition with just normal aging and slight erosion. The blade shows a “Clauberg, Solingen” marking. The mounts and inscription are reversed indicating possible useby a left-handed officer. An authentic Civil War inscription that should be further researched as we have no information at time of cataloging. Est.: $2750-$5500
