U.S. Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword, mfg'd by H. Folsom & Co., St. Louis, Sword is attributed to Capt. John A. Parrott, with etched 32'' blade, 37-1/2'' overall, and wire wrapped skateskin grip. Sword is attributed to Capt. Parrott, who served in Co. B 34th Ill. Infantry. Parrott mustered into the service Oct. 30, 1862, and was killed in action May 14, 1864, during the battle of Resaca, which was part of the Atlanta Campaign during the American Civil War and was waged in Gordon and Whitfield Counties, Georgia, with Wm. T. Sherman leading the Union, and Gen. Joseph E. Johnston leading the Confederate forces. Combined casualties that day were 6100. Future President Benjamin Harrison was present that day as a Union General. Accompanying this sword are documents relating to Parrott and a photograph that appears to be him with the exact same sword. Condition is very good with light patination to brass parts, thinning to detail of blade etching, and loosening of wire wrap. Leather washer is missing. Est.: $5,000-$7,500.
