U.S. Model 1842 Percussion Musket, by Springfield Armory, NSNV, .69 cal., 42'' barrel, iron mountings, finished bright, walnut stock, three barrel bands, with bayonet and scabbard. Unaltered smoothbore with 1844 dated sideplate,placing this specimen in prime Mexican War era, pre-dating 1847. Condition is very good showing light carbon spotting and very minor toning. Eagle on lockplate has been removed, although ''Springfield/1844'' markings are clear. Stock with scuffs, scratches and light sanding, losses to either side of upper tang, and small fractures at rear apex of lockplate. U.S. marked bayonet is in fine to excellent condition with just light spotting. Scabbard with some thinning to leather just above the chape.
