U.S. Model 1842, .69 caliber smoothbore musket by Harpers Ferry Arsenal dated 1846 in good original condition. The metal surfaces show a gray to brown patina finish with scattered light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting with some slightlyheavier pitting in the firing areas of the breech. The lock markings are visible but the Eagle is slightly light. The left side of the breech shows a good VP and Eagle proof. The stock is good with some minor dings, mars, small losses, normal aging and soldier carving along with the initials ā€œE W Dā€ on the right side. The original sling swivels and trumpet shaped ramrod are included. The action is good and generally good overall. There is also ā€œA. S.ā€ carved in initials behind side plate andanother carving of initials or insignia on the left center of the stock. A good date indicating possibly used in the Mexican-American war and many were also reissued and used in Civil War particularly by the South who had them in arsenals when the war began.
