U.S. Model 1841 Mississippi rifle by Harpers Ferry Arsenal dated 1852. National Armory converted to .58 caliber, long range rear sight added, and stud for saber bayonet with steel ramrod tip showing exaggerated trumpet head. Refer Flayderman 9A-283. The rifle remains in very good plus original condition showing considerable original brown on barrel and traces of muted case hardening within patina on the lock. The Eagle marking and Harpers Ferry markings on lock are sharp and crisp and clearly defined. The breech end of the barrel shows 2 W stamps along with V.P. and Eagle inspectors stamps. The tang is dated 1852. The metal surfaces show some slight erosion and pinprick pitting just starting. The stock is also very good plus with just some losses along the ramrod channel, minor dings, mars, scratches and normal aging with a nice patina on the brass. There is approximately 1” area on each side of the ramrod channel that has had a small chip splinter shape piece wood lost on each side. Good action, good bore, original ramrod is included. A far better than average and hard-to-find Mississippi rifle undoubtedly used in the Civil War. Est.: $5,000- $8,000.
