U.S. Model 1840 presentation grade flintlock musket, .69 caliber, 42” barrel in its unaltered original flintlock configuration showing Angel holding banner inlaid in silver that is nicely engraved on the right side of the stock andengraved silver star inlaid on the left along with select wood stock showing checkering at the wrist. The metal surfaces show moderate to heavy pitting and erosion and there is engraving on the barrel which may be a name that is not legible.The original barrel bands, guard, butt plate and mounts show heavy pitting and exposure to the elements. The wood is good to very good with some small losses along the ramrod channel. An un-cleaned patina with an “out-of-the-attic” look. An original style ramrod with matching patina is also retained along with original small parts. William A. Gary collection consigned from his estate.
