U.S. Model 1840 Calvary sword marked “Ames Manufacturing Company, Chicopee, Mass.” and dated “1855” in good to very good original condition showing U.S. marking and J.H. inspection. The blade shows a light gray patina and some originalpolish with minor beginning pitting and erosion. The scabbard shows a dark brown patina with light brushed erosion and normal use. The wire wrapped leather grip is in good condition. Many of these were used at the beginning of the Civil War byboth sides. The hilt shows a un-cleaned and pleasing patina. William A.
