U.S. Model 1817 flintlock common rifle by Henry Derringer of Philadelphia dated 1828 on the rear of the lock and barrel in .54 caliber rifled with 36” barrel and iron mounts. The rifle remains in good condition showing a deep brown patina finishwith some scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion and some slightly heavier pitting in the breech at the end of the barrel and some heavy pitting on the hammer. The lock is well marked and remains in its original configuration withcorrect hammer, top jaw, screws and parts. The barrel is well marked and the mounts all show a similar patina with no cleaning and a nice out of the attic look. The stock shows some small losses, minor imperfections and some considerable loss of wood behind the hammer and around the tang but generally good overall with a mostly visible cartouche just over the trigger on the left side. The original sling swivel bands are retained with a correct style ramrod. Approximately 13,000 wereproduced by Derringer who of course was a famous manufacturer of small percussion pocket pistols which became infamous with the assassination of Lincoln. The collection of William A. Gary consigned by his estate. Est.: $2500-$5,000
