U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Musket by Harpers Ferry Arsenal in 69 cal with early integral flash pan and beveled lock plate dated 1816 on rear portion of lock and nearly 45” barrel with provision or stud on top of barrel for1812 or 16 style bayonet. Refer Flayderman 9A-193. Note: these muskets normally have a 42” barrel and are dated 1817 or later. The metal surfaces show a light gray patina with good lock markings and well defined eagle atcenter. There is some light to moderate scattered pitting and erosion, with the heavier pitting on the barrel. The lock is original Flint with correct small parts and there is a good U.S. proof at left breech ofbarrel. The stock is good with traces of inspectors’ marks and cartouche, a clear “V”. There are some small losses at the top edge and ram rod channel, one larger loss by front band which is approx 1-1/2” by 1/8”.The butt plate is pitted and there is some weathering on the butt of the stock from moisture. The swivels have been removed, a correct style ram rod is included, the action works well. From an old N.Y. collector’s
