U.S. Martially Inspected Civil War Contract Starr 1858 Double Action Army Revolver

Manufactured during the late 1850s and early 1860s, Starr Revolvers saw combat use in the Civil War as Cavalry sidearms, exposing them to the harsh conditions of warfare. Blade and hammer notch sights with "STARR. ARMS. Co. NEW. YORK." on the left side of the frame and "STARR'S PATENT JAN. 15, 1856." on the right side. Matching numbers are present on the barrel lug, cylinder, hammer and frame, with "J" inspector marks on several parts and faint cartouches on either side of the smooth one-piece grip.

Fine with 70% of the original blue finish showing areas of brown patina, strongest on the cylinder, gray patina concentrated along the edges and on the grip straps, and scattered spotting and dings. Driver marks are present on some of the screw heads. Strong case colors are present on the hammer, loading lever and trigger, especially on the former, with some silvering out. Grips are re-oiled, with faint cartouches and mild dings. Mechanically very good.
