Spurious "U.S:" marked lock (s upside-down). Checkered forearm and stock with carved spread wing eagle with shield motif. The right side of the stock, traces of inspector cartouche remain. This carbine is accompanied with an unsigned letter provided by the consignor stating that this carbine was removed from a Grand Army of The Republic Hall in Iowa and was part of a group issued to Company "I" 1st Missouri Volunteer Cavalry and converted to 50/70 after the war per Indian War usage.
