Manufactured in 1942, this is a Colt Woodsman Target pistol purchased by the Army Ordnance and is possibly one of an estimated total of 3,962 pistols purchased by the U.S. military during the Second World War. The right side of the frame is marked with the inspectors initials "G.H.D." and the reverse is marked "THE WOODSMAN" above the cross-cannon Ordnance final inspection mark. The left rear of the barrel is marked with the "MATCH / Bullseye / TARGET" marking. Equipped with a pinned blade front sight and an adjustable rear target sight. The two line address/patent marking is on top of the barrel and the caliber marking with the Rampant Colt is on the left side of the slide. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with an "e" assembler's mark above the Colt "VP" triangle proofmark and the number "23" is on the reverse. Blue magazine marked "COLT WOODSMAN / CAL. 22 L.R." on the bottom and fitted with extended checkered plastic grips with the Rampant Colt molded at the tops. No factory letter is available to writer at time of description, so we cannot substantiate the military inspection.
BBL: 6 1/2 inch flat side
Stock:
Gauge: 22 LR
Finish: blue
Grips: plastic
Serial Number: MT13672
Condition: Very fine. The pistol retains at least 98% original blue finish with some wear on the left side of the muzzle, some high edge wear and a few light scattered scratches and handling marks. The grips are excellent with a couple small minor dings on the lower edges and sharp checkering. With the exception of a weak crossed cannon marking, the markings remain crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
