U.S. M1852 Navy Officer's Sword, with Knot, ca. 1950's-60's, 31" nickel-plated and etched decorated blade is maker marked at the ricasso to Wolf-Brown, and marked "Germany" and "stainless". Etched designs feature "U.S.N", fouled anchor, floral motifs, eagle, and circle of stars. The area for naming is blank. Brass hilt is decorated with pierce designs of oak leaves and acorns, and U.S.N. The finger guard is a stylized dolphin as is the quillion. Grip is white plastic with simulated rayskin bumps and triple twisted wire wrapping. Pommel features the American eagle, with nice gold bullion sword knot. Scabbard is metal with a black leather covering, brass drag, and hanger fittings. Condition is very good, the blade almost mint with a little dried grease at the tip, the original white felt blade washer is present. Top and one side of the guard and pommel have some green oxidation that may clean with a little sudsy ammonia. Grip is in nice condition with all the wire wrapping intact and tight. Knot is very nice. Scabbard is excellent with very minor lines and pinprick spots in the leather; brass fittings retain most of their gold gilt finish, toning somewhat. Est.: $200-$400.
