This model was an effective and popular carbine that was issued to the Federal Calvary during the Civil War. With blade front and 3-leaf rear sights, with "FDL" on the left side of the breech and the three line patent markings on the breechblock. Lock plate is marked "JOSLYN FIRE ARMS CO./STONINGTON/CONN" ahead of the hammer. Smooth straight grip stock with a "U.S." marked steel buttplate with saddle ring mounted on the left side. This model has the hooded firing pin and casehardened iron mountings that distinguish it from the Model 1862 which had brass mountings.

Condition: Very good as refinished. The carbine has an artificial smooth gray and brown mixed patina. The stock is good with some handling marks and pressure dents. Mechanically fine.
