U.S. Joslyn Model 1862 Breech loading Civil War Carbine
This is a solid example of a First Type Joslyn Model 1862 Civil War Carbine. Blade front and 3-leaf rear sights, with "FDL" on the left side of the breech and the three line patent markings on top of the swiveling breechblock. Lock plate is marked "JOSLYN FIRE ARMS CO. / STONINGTON/ CONN" ahead of the hammer. Smooth straight grip stock with a faint cartouche on the left side over the saddle ring bar and a "J" marked buttplate.
BBL: 22 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 52 RF
Finish: blue/ casehardened
Grips:
Serial Number: 3516
Condition: Very good plus, showing mostly a crisp blue/ brown patina overall with brightness around the muzzle, brown and gray on the breechblock, scattered handling marks and a rough texture to the finish. The case colors on the lock plate have turned a mixed brown and gray patina. The saddle ring bar retains much of vivid case colors. Stock is very good as lightly sanded, with a small amount of filler added and mild pressure dents. Mechanically excellent.
