Manufactured by Steven Jenks and Sons of Providence, Rhode Island. Steven Jenks was one of 19 gunmakers contracted to manufacture the Model 1808. Jenks manufactured approximately 3,925 Harpers Ferry Pattern Model 1808 Contract Muskets. The lock is marked "JENKS & Sn./RI/1813" at the rear and the eagle with laurel leaf over "U.S." in an oval panel is located in front of the hammer. The top of the barrel at the breech is marked "1247" and there is an unrecognizable recessed oval proof next to the number. The barrel, lock and iron furniture are finished bright. There is a bayonet lug mounted on the underside of the barrel. The lock has an integral rounded iron flash pan with high fence and a distinct point on the end. The lower sling swivel is mounted on a stud ahead of the trigger guard and the trigger guard has pointed finials. The barrel bands are secured by springs behind the bands. Mounted with a full one-piece black walnut stock with the distinctive Harpers Ferry high comb and iron buttplate.
