U.S. Inspector David F. Clark U.S. Marked Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1883. The top of the stretched barrel is marked with the one-line address and the underside is marked "P/D.F.C." directly ahead of the cylinder pin and the partial serial number "6714". The left side of the frame is marked with the three-line patent dates followed by "U.S.". The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "2642". The cylinder is marked with the letter "P" and "D.F.C.". "D.F.C." is also marked on the bottom of the frame over the serial number and the letter "G" below the serial number on the trigger guard and back strap. The full matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard and back strap with the partial number "6714" on the cylinder. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, and fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip. The accompanying factory letter verifies serial number 96714 as 45 caliber, blue finish with barrel length and grips as "Not Listed", (remarks state that the barrel length for that time period was 7 1/2 inches), and that it was shipped as one of 50 to J.P. Moores Sons, N.Y., N.Y. on June 14, 1884.

Fair as modified, (barrel stretched back to original length). All metal surfaces have a mottled gray patina with some minor pitting on the cylinder and frame. The grip has been refinished and remains good. The grip is a bit undersized with a small chip on the right toe as well as a few minor dents on the bottom and overall light handling marks. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
