This example was manufactured between 1863 and 1865. The barrel has a fixed blade front sight and a three-position flip up rear sight. The left side of the frame is marked "EDWARD MAYNARD/PATENTEE/MAY 27. 1851/DEC. 6. 1859" and the right side is marked "MANUFACTURED BY/MASS. ARMS CO./CHICOPEE FALLS.". The lower tang is marked "1865" along with the serial number. Mounted on a smooth walnut straight grip stock with two boxed "JM" script cartouches with rounded ends on the left side of the stock and a smooth steel buttplate.

Condition:
Very fine, 90% of the original blue finish remains on the barrel with some high edge wear, a few dings and some minor freckling. The casehardened components retain strong traces of the original case colors with mostly a mottled silvery gray/brown patina on the balance. The buttstock is very fine with scattered minor scratches and dings. Both cartouches are very sharp. Mechanically fine.
