U.S. Infantry Officer's Eaglehead Sword (Regulation of 1821), 29-3/4'' etched and partially blue gilded blade, cast brass eaglehead and guard, with large spread U.S. and eagle motif; bone ivory wire-wrapped handle. In correct bronze scabbard with light detail engraving to show side only. Scabbard marked ''425'' and ''Horstmann'' to back side. In use from 1821-1840. Condition is very good with light carbon spotting to blade. Approx. 60-70% thinning and toning blue remains to lower 1/3; gilding shows about 70%. Grips with light general patina. Scabbard shows mellow toning. Leather washer is present but thin. Est.: $800-$1,200.
