U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1803 Percussion Conversion Rifle Dated 1817

Manufactured at the U.S. Armory at Harpers Ferry, Virginia in 1817. This second pattern Model 1803 rifle has been converted to percussion . The lock is marked "HARPERS/FERRY/1817" in vertical lines behind the hammer and stamped with a Federal eagle with "US" in the shield ahead of the hammer. The left rear barrel flat has a recessed "US" and "eagle head/P". Dovetailed brass blade front sight and dovetailed iron rear sight. The rifle has the distinctive half octagon barrel with iron under rib and two iron ramrod pipes and Kentucky style walnut half stock with cheekpiece. The wedge fastened walnut stock has a brass forearm band, tail pipe, side plate, cheek piece trigger guard with grip spur, crescent buttplate and patch box. Comes with an iron ramrod

Fair as converted to percussion. The metal surfaces have a mottled dark brown and gray patina with some heavy pitting on the breech end of the barrel. The brass components have a natural untouched dark aged patina. The stock is good with a gouge at the wedge on the right side, half on the brass forend band is absent, and overall there are scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. The lock marking ahead of the hammer is partially visible, otherwise the markings are legible. The action is fine.
