Produced at the Harpers Ferry Armory, the Model 1819 was the U.S. Army's first breech loading long arm produced in large quantities, as well as the first successful arm with fully interchangeable parts. Blade and fixed notch sights properly offset to the left. The breech is marked "J.H. HALL/ H. FERRY/ US/ 1838" perpendicular to the bore. The breech catch is the proper "trigger" design, with the extended pistol grip trigger guard. Smooth straight grip stock with a button head ramrod, leather sling, three barrel bands, and smooth flat buttplate. Complete with an unmarked socket bayonet.

Condition: Very fine. The frame and buttplate retain 75% plus thinning original brown finish and the breechblock and remaining action components have a smooth dark gray patina. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth gray patina, retaining heavy amounts of a protective coating. The stock is very fine with some scattered minor dings and pressure dents.
