U.S. Hall/Harpers Ferry Model 1819 Hall Breech-Loading Percussion Conversion Rifle
The Hall Rifle is a significant U.S. military firearm. The Model 1819 Rifle was the first breech loading military arm produced in large quantities and adopted as a regulation weapon by the U.S. This Model 1819 Rifle is a Second Production Type made from 1826 to 1838 and has a "1832" dated breechblock and pin-fastened barrel bands. The rifle barrel, receiver and furniture have a brown finish. The stock is oil-finished black walnut. The breechblock is marked: "J.H. HALL / H. FERRY / U S / 1832" in four lines perpendicular to the bore. The left rear of the barrel is marked "P P". It was converted to percussion by grinding the pan flush with the top of the breech, adding a musket nipple in the old flash hole and installing a new hammer with a percussion top.
