ALS as president, two pages, 5 x 7.5, personal letterhead, July 24, 1873. Letter to the Secretary of the Treasury. In full: “Enclosed I send you memorandum left by Col. Davenport, United States Commissioner for New York City, of a detail which he requests made, and which I told him he should have if there were no impediment in the way. You are no doubt aware aware [sic] of the eminent service of Col. Davenport in the work of reform in New York City. He is still continuing in that labor and I hope it may be practical to gratify him in this request.” Archivally double matted and framed with a portrait of Grant in uniform and a name plaque to an overall size of 26 x 17.
