Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 7.75 x 9.75, March 3, 1875. President Grant authorizes and directs "the Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to a Warrant authorizing James Mooney to receive into custody Charles L. Lawrence, alias George G. Gordon." Boldly signed at the conclusion by President Grant. In fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. Lawrence, a notorious swindler and forger, fled the United States on January 25, 1875, on board the steamship Caspian en route to Liverpool. When the ship reached Queenstown on March 7th, Lawrence, who boarded under the name George Gordon, was promptly arrested by Sergeant Edward Shaw of Scotland Yard.
