ALS, one page, 8 x 10.25, Mexican Southern Railroad Company letterhead, July 24, 1883. Letter to A. D. Shaw. In full: “Not having been at my office for a week, I have just received yours of the 19th inst, inviting me to attend the 4th annual reunion of the Grant & Wilson and Hayes & Wheeler Glee Club to be held at Columbus July 20th. In reply will say that while thanking you kindly for the invitation, I shall not be able to accept.” Cloth-matted and framed with a portrait of Grant and a small plaque to an overall size of 16.5 x 14.5. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and a few stray ink spots. Grant used his position as president of the Mexican Southern Railroad Company to increase trade with Mexico, and was appointed by President Arthur to negotiate a commercial treaty with the country.
