Manuscript DS as president, one page both sides, 10.75 x 15.5, April 4, 1876. Grant issues a pardon to John Gerholdt “convicted of an assault and was sentenced to be imprisoned for three months and to pay a fine of fifty dollars: And whereas his term of imprisonment has nearly expired…the Judge before whom he was tried, and the United States Attorney, are of the opinion that his punishment has been sufficient, and recommend his pardon…I, Ulysses S. Grant…do hereby grant to the said John Gerholdt, a full and unconditional pardon.” Signed on the reverse by Grant and countersigned by Secretary of State Hamilton Fish. Intersecting folds, two through a single letters of signature, mounting remnants to lower portion of reverse, and scattered light toning, otherwise fine condition. The white seal is crisp and intact. A unusual sized and desirable Grant pardon.
