Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 15.75 x 19.5, March 5, 1872. Grant appoints Joseph M. Bradford “a Captain on the Retired List in the Navy.” Signed at the conclusion by Grant, and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy George Robeson. Grant’s signature a couple shades light, but completely legible, scattered light wrinkling and creasing, a bit of mild foxing, and a few small edge chips to lower right, otherwise fine condition. The blue seal is crisp and intact. Grant naval appointments are uncommon and desirable.
