Printed document issued by the "Headquarters, Department of Michigan, Grand Army of the Republic," one page, 5 x 8.5, July 23, 1885. Announcement of the death of U. S. Grant, in part: "To-day a Nation is mourning the death of one of the greatest Military Chieftains the world ever knew. The Supreme Commander of us all has seen fit to call from our midst, our Comrade Ulysses S. Grant, and while we bow in humble submission to His will, yet do we deeply mourn." The notice bears printed signatures of Chas. D. Lang, department commander, and O. F. Lockheed, assistant adjutant general. In fine condition, with short splits to the ends of the folds.
