VIS.35 SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL, WITH CAPTURE PAPERWORK. Cal. 9mm Luger. S# L2641. Bbl. 4 5/8". Vis.35 semi-automatic pistol mfg. at the Radom arsenal while under German occupation during World War II, and subsequently captured by a U.S.G.I. The left side of the slide is marked "F.B.RADOM VIS MOD.35.Pat.Nr.15567", followed by an eagle firing proof and Steyr Eagle/623 proof. Left and right sides of the frame exhibit a Radom Eagle/WaA77 proof. Sides and top of slide exhibit scroll engraved panels on a punch dot background. Metal components exhibit a chrome plated finish overall. Frame is mounted with 2-piece custom plain wood grips, which feature a white diamond inlay at the center of the panels. Slide features a matte rib, with a fixed blade front sight and dovetailed V-notch rear sight. All serialized parts are matching and include the frame, slide (interior), as well as the bbl. MAGS: 1 chrome plated 8-rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: U.S. capture document (from the 38th Infantry Division) dated June 4th of 1945, indicating that this example was captured by Lt. Colonel Earl Davis of the 36th Evacuation Hospital, whom likely had this pistol chrome plated and engraved (as was common practice with war trophys at the time). The cataloger finds it important to note, that the 6th Army (including the 38th Infantry Division) were stationed in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and with just how Lt. Colonel Earl Davis came into possession of this Vis.35 remaining a mystery. CONDITION: metal components retain the vast majority of their reapplied chrome plated finish, exhibiting a few scattered spots of minor bubbling and flaking on the left side of the frame, with some spots/areas of light to mild pitting present beneath the chrome plating overall. Fair bore, exhibiting consistent moderate pitting, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Grips show some superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. A nice example of a likely U.S.G.I. customized Vis.35 semi-automatic pistol, with capture paperwork. (25-2394/MLW). CURIO. $500-1,000.
