<B>U.S. Flag & Patch Carried Around the Moon on Apollo 8!</B></I> Affixed to a 12" x 14" wooden shield plaque is a 5.75" x 3.75" U.S. flag and the Apollo 8 patch, covered in clear plastic. The 4.75" x 0.75" metallic plaque affixed on top certifies "<I>This Flag & Patch carried around the moon/ aboard Apollo VIII December 21-27 1968.</B></I>" The 4.75" x 3.75" metallic plaque affixed at the bottom "<I>To MSgt Joe D. Garino Jr. U.S.A.F./ for all the dedicated assistance in/ the Physical Conditioning Department./ Presented by Astronaut/ Col. Frank Borman U.S.A.F./ Apollo VIII Commander.</B></I>" Frank Borman (Commander), James Lovell (Command Module pilot), and William Anders (Lunar Module pilot) became the first humans to orbit around the moon on Apollo 8, carrying this flag and this patch. It was during their mission, on Christmas Eve, 1968, that the crew participated in a live television broadcast from lunar orbit in which they showed views of the Earth and moon as seen from Apollo 8, ending the broadcast with the crew taking turns reading from the book of Genesis, "In the beginningā€¦" Accompanied by a one page, 8" x 10.5", Typed Letter Signed "<I>Frank Borman,</B></I>" to Joe Garino, stating "<I>This flag and patch was carried on the first flight around the moon aboard Apollo VIIIā€¦</B></I>" <I>From the collection of renowned former physical trainer of the astronauts Joe Garino.
