The 6" x 3" metallic plaque affixed certifies that "<I>This Flag was carried to the moon aboard/ Apollo 12 November 14, 1969/ and presented to/ Joe D. Garino Jr./ By/ Astronauts/ Charles Conrad USN/ Richard Gordon USN Alan Bean USN.</B></I>" Apollo 12, with this flag aboard, was the second manned lunar landing mission. Landing in the Ocean of Storms, astronauts Conrad and Bean retrieved parts of the unmanned Surveyor 3, which had landed on the moon in 1967 and collected 75 pounds of moon rocks.
