U.S. Eagle Pommel Sword with Gilt Finish and Fraternal Organization Presentation Sheath
29 inch double edged spear-point blade, with no visible markings. Gilt finished brass hilt, with eagle and globe designs on the languets, leaf decorated rear quillion, chain guard, ribbed bone grip and eagle head pommel. With a gilt finished brass sheath, with trimmed down drag, three hanging ring, and inscription "E. Chapman/ Annawan/ Encampment/ -No 8-/ I.O. of O.F." near the throat. Research indicates the "IOOF" as the International Order of Odd Fellows, an fraternal organization founded in the U.S. in 1819, with a focus on charitable and altruistic activity.

Very good, with some light spotting on the blade. The bone grip has shrunk and is loose. About 45% of the original gold present and an attractive contrasting patina on the brass.
