U.S. Colt Single Action Army Revolver
This is a completely reworked, restored example of a U.S. Colt Single Action Cavalry revolver made during Orville Ainsworth's tenure as Principal Sub-Inspector. Short italic one line address on top of the barrel flanked by crosses, with broken lines in the "o" in "Co" and the "A" in "HARTFORD", a bull's-eye head ejector rod with early "bolster" style housing, "C" near the bolster and "P/ A" just ahead of the cylinder pin. Matching serial numbers are present on the frame and grip straps, with matching partial numbers on the barrel and cylinder. The frame has the two line, two date patent marking, next to the "U.S." stamp, "C" in the hammer cutout and "287" on the loading gate. In addition to the stamp on the barrel, "A" inspector mark is present on the trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder and underside of the grip. Smooth one piece hardwood grip with penciled matching serial number in the channel.
