U.S. Colt Model 1878/1902  Alaskan  Double Action Revolver
Also known as the "Philippine" model, and easily identified by the distinctive oversized trigger guard. Approximately 4600 of these revolvers were purchased by the Army to provide a large caliber replacement for the .38 caliber New Army Model DA revolver. Fixed sights, with the one line block letter Hartford address on top of the barrel and "45 COLT" on the left. Stamped "U.S.", "J.T.T" and "1902" on the right side of the frame, with Carr's "R.A.C." inspection mark on the left side of the backstrap knuckle, trigger guard bow and rear face of the cylinder. Checkered hard rubber grips, with the smooth wedges at the bottoms, oval Rampant Colt icons at the top and a lanyard swivel on the butt.

Fine, with 40% of the original blue finish, strongest in the protected areas, with a mixed brown patina forming on the surfaces, bright gray on the grip straps, bright edge wear, a few small patches of pitting and scattered handling marks. Bright niter blue color remains on the trigger and hammer, strongest in the protected areas. Grips are good, with a fine brown color and light pressure dents. Mechanically functions, but is slightly out of time.
