Manufactured in 1875. The revolver is marked with "C" (A.P. Casey) ordnance sub-inspector initials on the barrel, trigger guard, cylinder, and back strap. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." and the left side of the frame is marked with the two line, two patent dates followed by "U.S". In addition to a "C" on the bottom of the barrel there is also a "P" just ahead of the cylinder pin. This revolver was probably factory refurbished in the Spanish - American War era. The left upper front of the trigger guard is marked with the Colt VP triangle proof, which was started in the early 1900's on Smokeless Powder Colt Single Action Army revolvers. The left rear is marked with the letter "T". The hammer is also a post 1900, early civilian style with the polished sides and niter blue back and top, and shorter cross hatched spur. The matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The rear face of the cylinder is stamped "666" over the "C" sub-inspection mark. The matching number barrel is equipped with the correct early first model ejector housing and "bulls-eye" style ejector rod head. The barrel address is the later style block address, not italic, but is authentic. Standard blade front, frame notch sights, casehardened frame with blue on the remaining parts and fitted with smooth, unmarked one piece walnut grip.
BBL: 7 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 45 Colt
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 16666
Condition: Very fine. Factory refurbished with the barrel and ejector housing retaining 40% factory high polish blue finish with the balance smooth mottled gray patina. The cylinder retains 50% blue finish (mainly in the flutes) with the balance smooth brown patina. The grip frame retains almost all of the blue finish with a couple scuffs on the top of the back strap, flaking on the front strap and some wear on the trigger guard. The frame shows 50% case colors with a smooth silver gray on the balance. The grip is very good with some light lower edge wear, several tiny dings on the bottoms and overall some scattered minor dings and scratches. The barrel marking is crisp and clear, the frame marking has faded a bit, but is legible. The action mechanically excellent.
