U.S. Colt Model 1851 Navy-Army Percussion Revolver

Manufactured in 1856. This U.S. Colt Model 1851 revolver correctly falls into the serial number range 42,000-80,000 for Navy-Army revolvers as identified by noted Model 1851 expert Nathan Swayze. The barrel has the one line New York address with "COLTS/PATENT/U.S." on the left side of the frame, the Texas Navy scene on the cylinder and "X" on the left side of the trigger guard. Single letter inspection marks are found on some of the components. Matching numbers on the cylinder, barrel, frame, brass grip straps, wedge and loading lever. The butt is lightly script marked "E.E. Shaffield". Fitted with a one piece grip with a script letter cartouche on both sides.

Good. The revolver has a smooth brown-gray patina with traces of faded original case colors remaining on the frame. "HM" is deeply hand marked on the bottom barrel flat towards the breech. Most of the cylinder scene remains. The reoiled grip is very good with a small chip missing near the bottom (left side) and some minor handling marks with lightly visible cartouches. Mechanically fine.
