U.S. Colt First Model Dragoon Revolver
This scarce First Model Dragoon Revolver was manufactured in 1849. The revolver has the distinctive (First Model) oval cylinder stops and square back trigger guard. The brass trigger guard and backstrap have the silver plating found on commercial First Model Dragoon Revolvers. The top of the half round barrel is marked: "{ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY}" reading from the breech to the muzzle. The left forward portion of the frame is stamped: "COLT'S / PATENT / U.S." (the "U.S." marking was found on both military contract and commercial production revolvers). The cylinder once had the Ranger and Indian fight scene on the cylinder. Matching full serial number on the cylinder, cylinder pin, barrel, frame, trigger guard, and backstrap, with the partial serial number on the loading lever and a mismatched wedge (624). Small inspector letters are marked on most on the components. Fitted with a smooth one piece grip.

Serial Number: 5255
Condition: Good. The metal surfaces have been cleaned many years ago and have aged once again with some minor pitting (heavier concentration of pitting on the frame). The trigger guard and backstrap retain traces of original silver plating in the protected areas with the exposed brass having an even patina. The cylinder scene is very faint, but visible. The grip is very good with the initial "CWJ" carved on the bottom, a couple missing chips on the bottom edges and some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
