U.S. Colt First Model Dragoon Percussion Revolver

This is an example of a First Model Dragoon Revolver manufactured in 1849. The revolver has the distinctive First Model oval cylinder stops and brass square back trigger guard. The top of the barrel flat is marked "-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK CITY-" reading from breech to muzzle, and the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT/U.S.". The serial number, "7571" is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap, the wedge and cylinder pin are un-numbered and the loading lever is marked "8668". Blade front sight and hammer notch rear sight. The revolver is fitted with a smooth one piece walnut grip. Colt manufactured approximately 5,000 First Model Dragoons in two years.

Poor. The metal surfaces are heavily pitted overall. Two of the frame screws are badly marred. The loading lever does not securely latch and there is considerable play in the barrel assembly. The brass has an aged patina. The grip is also fair with heavy lower edge wear, a chip absent from each toe, and some minor dents and dings. The pitting obscures some of the markings. The action functions properly.
