U.S. Colt Cavalry Model Single Action Army Revolver with Kopec and Factory Letters

Manufactured in 1885. The top of the barrel is marked with the one line address and the underside is marked "P/D.F.C.", (David F. Clark) sub-inspectors mark" directly ahead of the cylinder pin. The left side of the frame is marked with the three line patent dates followed by "U.S.". The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "1082". The cylinder is marked with the letter "P" and "D.F.C.". "D.F.C." is also marked on the bottom of the frame over the serial number and the letter "G" below the serial number on the trigger guard and back strap. The complete matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard and back strap with the partial number "6736" on the cylinder. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, and fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip with "1885" over an oval "FH" (Captain Frank Heath) on the left side and "DFC" on the right side. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, blue finish with barrel length and grips as "Not Listed", (remarks state that walnut grips and 7 1/2 inch barrels were standard during that time period), and that it was delivered as 1 of 150 revolvers to the U.S. Government Inspector at the Colt plant on December 14, 1885. The revolver also comes with a Kopec letter in which he states "It is my Opinion that it is totally authentic." It is also Mr. Kopecs opinion that due to the revolver still in its original Cavalry configuration that it is very possible it was 1 of 633 of these revolvers that were issued to state militia units.

Very good. The revolver has a mottled brown patina with traces of original blue finish in protected areas. There is an area of minor pitting on the left front of the barrel and on the muzzle. There is a minor crack on the left side of the frame running from the trigger screw downward. There are a series of scratches on the sides of the trigger guard shoulders and the back strap lugs. The grips are also very good with evidence of some sanding on the upper contours, more prevalent on the right side, otherwise a small chip on the left toe and some minor dings. The cartouches are legible. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
