U.S. Colt Artillery Model Single Action Army Revolver
From 1895 to 1903 a number of "US" marked Single Action Armies, like this one, were returned to either the Colt factory or Springfield Armory where they were modified (to 5 1/2 inch barrel length), dismantled and refinished, often with little regard to which gun the refinished parts came from, resulting in a mix of serial numbers and markings. These revolvers have a 5 1/2 inch barrel, casehardened frame and blue cylinder, grip frame and barrel. The serial numbers are mixed on these altered models and they were remarked by inspectors of the era. This revolver is serial numbered "3361" on the frame, "92160" over a "G" on the trigger guard, "3194" on the backstrap and the cylinder is un-numbered. It bears the standard one line address on top of the barrel, "P" and "DFC" marked on the bottom of the barrel and the two line, two patent date marking on the left side of the frame followed by "U.S.". The loading gate is stamped with the assembly number "858". It has the later curved style ejector rod head, standard blade front and frame notch rear sights and is fitted with smooth, one piece unmarked walnut grips.

Arsenal refurbished then subsequently reblued. The barrel retains most of the dull blue finish and the ejector housing retains 80% thinning finish. The cylinder retains 95% finish with some areas of thinning, some high edge wear and a prominent drag line. The grip straps retain 98% blue finish with some very light spotting on the backstrap. The frame retains approximately 70% of the soft dull gray case colors, as well as some dull case colors and areas of smooth silver gray. There is a small area of minor pitting on the front upper frame, just ahead of the cylinder. The grip is revarnished with most varnish remaining with minor lower edge wear and a few minor dents and scuffs. Clear crisp markings. The action is excellent.
