Made in 1857, as part of a serial range that was chiefly issued to the 15th and 2nd Cavalry Regiments, which campaigned in Texas against the Comanche and Cheyenne tribes before the Civil War. Brass post front and hammer notch rear sight, with "-- ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT. --" on top of the barrel and "COLTS/PATENT/U.S." on the left side of the frame. Featuring a small rounded brass trigger guard and beveled loading cutout, as well as inspectors marks on the back strap, trigger guard, barrel and grips. Wedge numbered "0311", other numbers match. Smooth one piece grips, with oval "MM" (ordinance sub-inspector M. Moulton) cartouche on the left side.

Condition: Very good, with a crisp mixed gray patina overall. Cylinder pins are solid, with mild flash pitting and the surface polished with no visible scene and faint matching number. 20% of the well aged silver remains on the grip straps, strongest around the trigger guard.
