U. S. Civil War officers sword by Collins of Hartford, CT, dated 1862, in very good condition with original scabbard. The blade shows its original polish and etching, with just some beginning erosion, normal age,slight darkening, minor staining, but at least very good+ to almost fine with no cleaning or polishing whatsoever. The hilt and cast metal grip show 50-60% original gold gilt that is darkening from patina. Thepommel shows a defined eagle head; the original scabbard shows engraved brass mounts with traces of gold gilt and a brown body to the original scabbard. The scabbard shows some beginning erosion and is at least verygood. The sword measures 37" inches without the scabbard and the blade measures 31" and is almost straight being a foot officers pattern.
