U.S. Civil War era Smith breechloading percussion carbine, .50 cal., 21-5/8” barrel, blue and case hardened finish, wood stocks, #14464 in overall good to very good condition showing a brown patina on the barrel with mixed in muted blue finish, silvery toning to receiver, very good bore, crisp action, good markings including Smith’s Patent and Address Poultney & Trimble; saddle ring and bar retained; wood is overall good showing wear, scattered old mars, scratches, some losses and several hearts cut into the butt stock along with the initials “LV”, partially visible cartouche on left side of butt stock; unique release mechanism of a T-shaped latch lifter forward of the trigger to drop open the barrel for loading.
