U.S. Civil War Model 1863 Remington Zouave Percussion Rifle with Bayonet
Manufactured circa 1862 - 1865. The lock plate on this rifle is dated 1863 behind the hammer, has the eagle/shield over "U.S." and "REMINGTON'S / ILION, N.Y." in front of the hammer and there is an "L" stamped at the front. The top of the barrel is dated "1863" and marked with the "V/ P/ eagle head" proofs to the rear. The left flat is marked "STEEL R.K.A." The front sight is fixed, with a three leaf type rear sight and a bayonet lug mounted on the right side. The barrel is blue, casehardened lock and hammer with all brass mounting. Iron ramrod with tulip head. The left stock flat is stamped with two cartouches. Fitted with a brass patch box with an extra nipple and the buttplate tang is marked "U.S." The rifle is complete with a sword bayonet with sheath.

Very fine. The barrel retains approximately 60% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. There is some minor spotting and some minor flash pitting. The brass has a fine aged patina. The action has faded to a smooth silver/gray patina. The stock is very fine with the exception of a few absent chips at the ramrod channel and some minor dings and scratches overall. The bayonet is very fine with the blade having a polished appearance that is beginning to age. The sheath has even minor wear and some minor cracks, with the brass having aged patina and some mild dents. The stitching is tight.
