<Our item number 135954><B>U.S. Civil War Model 1840 Contract Flintlock Musket Converted to Percussion.</B> With original bayonet. Dated &#34;1840, 1841&#34;. 42 inch.69 cal. round steel barrel marked; &#34;J C B &#40;Joseph C. Bragg, arsenal inspector, 1841-1843&#41;, &#34;US&#34; and an oval with &#34;P&#34; &#40;proofed&#41; and the tang dated &#34;1841&#34;. Lock is marked; &#34;US,&#34; &#34;1840&#34;, with an eagle over &#34;L. Pomeroy&#34;. All steel furniture with butt plate marked &#34;US&#34;. Stock is marked on the top of comb; &#34;X 5&#34;, at the tail of the trigger guard; &#34;22&#34;, &#34;T&#34; at the front of lock plate on the face of the mortise; &#34;S&#34;, and on the flat by side plate there are &#40;2&#41; cartouches; an oval with &#34;JCB&#34; &#40;Joseph C. Bragg&#41; and &#34;WAT&#34; &#40;William A. Thornton, arsenal inspector 1840-1860&#41; and is solid with normal scratches and dings from years of service. Converted to percussion circa 1849-1851. Musket comes with the original ba yonet and leather scabbard. A very nice example in excellent condition and good working order.
