U.S. Civil War Massachusetts Arms Maynard Patent Breech loading Percussion Carbine
Manufactured from 1860 to 1865, and issued to such Cavalry units as the 9th and 11th Indiana and the 11th Tennessee. Blade front and three leaf folding rear sights, with "N" on the rear sight base and "S" on the left chamber flat. Three line "MASS. ARMS CO." address on the right front of the frame and four line "1851/1859" patent marking on the left side, with the saddle ring and bar on the left side. Smooth straight grip stock, with "AJN" and "JM" cartouches and a smooth buttplate marked "S" on the heel.

Condition: Very fine, with 95% of the original blue finish, showing some light handling marks overall. 60% of original case colors remain on the frame, strongest in the protected areas, with brighter wear along the high edges and mild spots. Stock is very fine, with some scratches, pressure dents and chips. There is a, barely noticeable, hairline crack present on the left side of wrist which extends parallel to the tang for approximately five inches. Mechanically excellent.
